Step-by-Step: How to reset Meraki MX switches
Step 1: Identify if the switches you would like to reset are rack-mounted or compact (non rack-mounted).
To identify if you are factory resetting a rack-mounted Meraki Switch, you need to go to the location of the switch. If it is housed within a cabinet alongside other Switches that are all fixed into position, then it is most-likely a rack mounted Switch. You can find the Reset pinhole on the front of a rack-mounted switch.
A non mounted Switch will more than likely not be fixed in a cabinet. The since you are able to more easily move this Switch around when you aim to reset Meraki switches, the Reset pinhole is frequently on the back of this device.
Note: On some of the devices, the reset pinhole may be on the front, and occasionally on the side.
Step 2: Time to Reset Meraki Switches
Once you have deciphered what type of Switch you are resetting and where the Reset pinhole is located, it’s time to reset your Meraki switch. Using a paperclip (or equivalent), use the thin pointed side to push and hold the “Reset” or “Restore” pinhole for 10-15 seconds to reset the Meraki MX Switch.
Step 3: Wait for Reset & Start Fresh
After holding the reset button for 10-15 seconds the process of resetting the Meraki switch will begin. Your device will wipe the information around the IP address, local configuration, and more associated with the device. The process to reset Meraki switches may take up to 10 minutes.
